The Marian University Ancilla baseball team is in its final week of the season, and Thursday marked the last time they would travel. The Chargers headed to Kalamazoo Valley Community College to take on the Cougars, but they fell 12-1 and 9-3 in two games. Below is a quick look at highlights from yesterday's action.

Game-1 (L 12-1): The Chargers picked up their lone run in the top of the 3rd inning. Sophomore Conner Boone led off the inning with a single, then Freshman Cade Riley and Sophomore Tyler Bumbalough followed up with walks to load the bases with no one out. Two strikeouts later, Freshman Blaze Schultz stepped to the plate and drove a line drive single to center field, scoring Boone.

Freshman pitcher Jaden Franceschina (3-7) drew the start and pitched 3.0 innings, striking out one batter. The Cougar pitching staff combined to strike out 10 Chargers in total.

Game-2 (L 9-3): In the second matchup of the afternoon, the Chargers spread three runs over seven innings, but their four errors caught up with them in the end. Freshman pitcher Jacob Hobbs (4-6) was credited with the loss, though only three of the seven runs he allowed were earned, and he struck out four batters in 5.0 innings pitched.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Freshman Diego Pettiford hit a 1-out double to get into scoring position. Sophomore James Riddle singled to second base, moving Pettiford to third. Conner Boone then laid down a bunt, scoring Pettiford.

The top of the 5th inning saw another Charger run, as Freshman Traevyn Shoaf led off the inning with a single. Shoaf later stole second base, Riddle doubled to center field, and Shoaf came around to score.

The Chargers scored their final run in the top of the 6th inning, when Cade Riley singled, Freshman Isaiah Steinhilber walked, and Sophomore Hunter Smith singled, loading the bases. Blaze Schultz grounded into a double play, however Riley was able to come across and score.

The MUAC baseball team finishes their season tomorrow, Saturday (5/4), when they host the same Cougars of Kalamazoo Valley. Game times are set for 1:00 and 3:30 p.m. ET. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
