Chargers Fall in Championship Game

Chargers Fall in Championship Game

Grand Rapids, MI -- #8 Muskegon Community College (26-4) hit nine three-pointers in the first half and never let Ancilla get closer than four points the rest of the game on its way to a 94-82 win in the championship game of the 2020 NJCCA Region 12 Division II Great Lakes West District Saturday evening.

The Chargers opened the second half with a 12-0 run and got to within 50-43 before Muskegon responded. The Chargers closed again and were only down 66-62 with just under 11 minutes to play after finally finding the basket from three-point range.

Cortney Shorter led Ancilla (21-8) with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Isiah James finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. Both of these players were named to the All-Tournament team.  Josh Alcindor scored 10 points in his last game for the Chargers and Clark Wells came off the bench to get 10 points also.

Ancilla won the championship last year on its way to an 8th place finish in the NJCAA National Tournament. The Chargers have played in the last three Region 12 Great Lakes District Championships and have a 1-2 record in them.
