Charger Men Sweep 2 Games At Home

MU Ancilla 82 Owens CC 73

Coming off an overtime loss at Edison State last weekend, the Charger Men's Basketball Team was eager to get back to work on their home court for a 2-game home stand.  MU Ancilla took care of business going 2-0 on the week.  The week started off strong with a wire-to-wire win over Owens CC, a game that ended with an 82-73 score.  The Chargers started the game off on a 14-2 run and never looked back as they were in control the whole way.  Owens was able to make a late run in the first half but still found themselves down 36-29 at the break.

The second half was a back and forth contest where both teams found some hot shooting.  MU Ancilla ended up taking the second half 46-44 which led to the 9-point victory.

Coach Herring was pleased with his team's defensive effort.  "Any time you can hold a team to only 6 offensive rebounds, you have to feel pretty good.  I would like to see us foul a little bit less which leads to some easy points for our opponents but at the same time, to play 40 minutes of men's college basketball and only give up 73 points, that's a solid night for our guys.  I thought our depth was really important tonight as we were able to play a lot of guys and I think that takes its' toll on the other team."

The Chargers were led by KeAndre Nelson's 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals in the victory.  Maurice Russell added 16 points on 5-10 shooting followed by DeWayne Robinson's 13 and Ben Jones who rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points of his own.

MU Ancilla 93 Indiana Elite Prep 82

For the second time this week, the MU Ancilla men found themselves playing at home, this time against Indiana Elite Prep.  On Tuesday, it was the Chargers who jumped out to an early lead.  On Saturday, it was Indiana Elite Prep who jumped out early, leading at one point by 14 points.  The Chargers tightened up their defense and went on a great offensive run to overtake the visitors, outscoring Indiana Elite Prep by 25 the rest of the way to finish with a 93-82 win.

With the win, the Chargers improve to 5-1.  Coach Herring was very happy with his team's week.  "I think we are getting better which is all you are hoping to see in November.  We have found ourselves behind by double digits a little more than we would like but these guys never stop competing and always believe they have a chance to win.  There is a lot of value in that."

After a busy first few weeks of the season, the Chargers will have an almost two-week break before they return to the court at the St. Clair Tournament where they will play Mid-Michigan on December 2nd followed by a game with Alpena on December 3rd.
