For the second time in as many games, the MUAC Charger Men's Soccer team battled the developmental team of an NAIA Crossroads League program, falling to the Marian University Knights in Indianapolis, 3-0. Many of the Charger athletics programs use these opportunities against 4-year schools to (a) play against a handful of older, more experienced players, as well as (b) put their players in a position to be seen by the 4-year programs, hopefully helping them get recruited for their final years once they graduate from MUAC.
In this particular matchup, the Chargers encountered a very experienced, mature team. The Chargers had several nice moments but couldn't find the back of the net, while their counterparts from Indianapolis showed a bit more touch, a bit more accuracy, and a bit more efficiency when it came down to the finer details in the contest.
Sophomore Javier Guerra and Freshman Zach Huff, both defenders, stood out with their play along the back line, while Redshirt Freshman goalkeeper Trent Platz did manage to ward off 8 of 11 shots on goal.
As many coaches would likely say in this circumstance, Head Coach Kirk Weiss pointed out that, "we started seven Freshmen, and we are leaning on them heavily to contribute. They are just two games and four scrimmages into their careers, so they are quickly learning the difference between high school and college soccer. We are also missing a couple of our experienced guys from a year ago, due to injuries, and they would certainly help."
The Chargers begin the home portion of their regular season this Friday when they host Fairhaven Baptist College at 6:00 p.m. In fact, the Men's Soccer team is also at home six consecutive times throughout the month of September! [Schedule Here] Please come out and support the Chargers!
