The Charger Men's Soccer team got their first taste of MCCAA (Michigan Community College Athletic Association) action Saturday afternoon, falling to a very physical St. Clair County Community College team, 4-1. MUAC falls to 3-2 (0-1 in the MCCAA) on the season.

Marian Ancilla began the contest with an incredibly quick counter-attack, scoring the first goal, and their only goal, with only 36 seconds having expired off the clock. Freshman Bawi Za Sang set up classmate Matt Polk Jr., who found the back of the net, and the Chargers led 1-0.

St. Clair was able to tie the match at 1-1 about 15 minutes later. Another five minutes after that, and it was suddenly 2-1 in favor of the Skippers. The rest of the half became more physical, and neither team was able to get a good look, let alone another goal, so St. Clair led 2-1 at the break.

The second half picked up where the first half ended, with both teams picking up the physicality. Each team received a number of yellow cards in the half, and for the second consecutive game, the Chargers unfortunately lost a back line Sophomore due to a red card. While MUAC was unable to even the score, St. Clair found the net two more times in the half, separating themselves for the 4-1 victory.

Afterwards, Head Coach Kirk Weiss shouldered the loss, "we started the game really fast, scoring quickly. But the rest of the game we got out-worked, and that's on me. I need to get them better prepared. (This) obviously isn't the start to the conference season we wanted, but our next (MCCAA) game isn't until the 21st. So, we will take advantage of the prep time to make the needed adjustments and get everyone healthy."

The Chargers are back in action Tuesday evening, as they host the International Soccer Academy of America from nearby Mishawaka, Indiana. Charger Freshman Yeffreys Quintanilla played there a season ago. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the MUAC fields. Please come out and support the Men's Soccer team, if you are able!!
