Back on Track, Chargers Win Shortened Contest, 5-0

The Marian University Ancilla Men's Soccer team was back in action Tuesday night, looking to rebound again the International Soccer Academy of America from nearby Mishawaka, Indiana. The ISAA was unfortunately a little depleted, carrying just 14 rostered players with them, due to 8 being sidelined because of illness or injury. With that in mind, the two teams agreed beforehand to two 35-minute halves instead of the customary 45-minute halves. Below is a quick rundown of the 5-0 win for the Chargers.

MUAC again get things started early, as Sophomore Santiago Morales was responsible for the first goal, unassisted, finding the back of the net in the 13th minute. Just 11 minutes later, the Charger pressure again caught up to ISAA, as Freshman Bawi Za Sang scored his second goal of the year on an assist from Morales. Then just before halftime, it was Sophomore Alan Pena's turn, as he moved up from his normal defensive position to score on an assist from Freshman Yeffreys Quintanilla, a 2024 graduate of ISAA.

The second half got started quicker than the first when Freshman Victor Rodriguez took the ball much of the way down the field, weaved through traffic, and score the unassisted 4th goal of the day with just 40 seconds having expired in the stanza. To cap things off, Morales was again involved with his second assist of the contest when he found Freshman Hein Lin in the 45th minute. Lin had left the game earlier due to injury, so it was nice to see him return and find the net.

"It was good to get back in the win column," stated Head Coach Kirk Weiss. "ISAA was down some guys but had talented players on the field. After the last game, we really wanted to focus on our work rate and doing the simple things. I believe we were able to do those things and play our game, and it showed. We have some time before our next game to fine tune some things for a tough stretch of MCCAA conference games."

The Chargers now have several days off before they host Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday, September 21st. Kickoff for that matchup is schedule for 1:00 p.m. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
