Lady Chargers Drop Two on the Diamond

Donaldson, IN --The Ancilla College women's softball teams opened the season on Saturday against Muskegon Community College at the Ancilla Fields in Donaldson.  The team missed all of last season due to the Covid shutdown happening just as their season was ready to begin.

Muskegon took the open 7-2 and the second game 10-2 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association opener for both squads.

Gabby Gerard and Karly Unruh provided the firepower for the Lady Chargers (0-2). Gerard had two hits including a solo home run. Unruh went 3-3 at the plate with another RBI.  Amanda Hartman took the loss, but rang up 12 strikeouts before doing so.

The second game saw nine Ancilla batters reach base as the team pounded out eight hits. Alexis Robinson and Odyssey Whitcomb collected two hits each. Muskegon erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.

Ancilla travels to Glen Oaks Community College on Thursday for a 3 p.m. start and will be back at home on Saturday for a 1 p.m. opener against Grand Rapids Community College.
