The Marian University Ancilla softball team was back in action Tuesday afternoon, following an 11-day break after their Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach. Not only did the Chargers get back on the field, but they did so in an MCCAA conference double-header against the Kalamazoo Valley Cougars (MI). The Cougars used their bats early and often, sweeping the Chargers in their first action on their home field.

Game-1 started out with both teams scoreless through the 1st inning. But a 15-run 2nd inning by the Cougars created a hole to big to climb out of for the Chargers, as the final finished at 19-0 in 5 innings. Former Concordia Lutheran High School teammates Abigail Heaston and Samantha Hoffman, both Freshman, were each responsible for one of the two Charger hits. Sophomore Audrey Schmidt (0-1) saw her first action in the circle, but she was ultimately credited with the loss.

In the second outing of the day, the Chargers allowed a run in the top of the 1st inning, but then their bats came alive, as they posted a 6-run inning in the bottom of the 1st. Kalamazoo Valley scored 3 in the 2nd to cut it to 6-4, but an 8-run 3rd inning by Kalamazoo Valley flipped the score, and the Cougars never trailed again, topping the Chargers 15-6 in 5 innings. The Chargers did manage 7 hits in the game, including a double by Freshman catcher Abby Witt that drove in a run. Freshman third baseman Samantha Perry drove in a pair of runs, while Freshman shortstop Alyssa Mulbarger was the lone Charger with multiple hits...two singles. Freshman Samantha Hoffman (0-2) had another solid outing pitching, but she was credited with her second loss of the season.

The Charger softball team has a big weekend ahead of them, featuring a pair of conference double-headers on Friday and Saturday. Friday, the Chargers head to Glen Oaks Community College (MI), where they will play at 3:00 p.m. and approximately 5:00 p.m. ET. Saturday, the Chargers host Lansing Community College (MI) for a pair of games, with the first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. ET. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
