The Marian University Ancilla softball team continued their makeup tour, traveling to Jackson College in Jackson, Michigan, yesterday for a double-header against the Jets. They got off to a solid start, even holding a 3-1 lead in the first game before losing 13-6. The second matchup of the afternoon was unfortunately a 19-1 outcome in just 5 innings. Below is a quick look at some highlights from yesterday afternoon's twin bill.

Game-1 (L 13-6): Jackson got the scoring started in this one, putting together a pair of singles to drive in the first run, making it 1-0 Jets after one inning. The Chargers responded in the top of the 2nd, as Freshman Ambrosia Mason led off with a walk. Freshman Samantha Hoffman then singled, advancing Mason to second base. Following an out, Freshman Keely Qualkenbush roped a double into center field, driving in both runners, and helping the Chargers to the 2-1 advantage.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Freshman Alyssa Mulbarger led off and was struck by a pitch, advancing her to first base. During a ground out, Mulbarger advanced to second. Freshman Abby Witt then singled, moving Mulbarger to third base. With runners on the corners, Mason bunted to the shortstop, driving in Mulbarger and advancing Witt to second, and it was 3-1, Chargers.

But the bottom of the 3rd inning wasn't too kind to MUAC. Behind 5 singles and 3 doubles, the Jets were able to amass 6 runs in the inning, taking the lead and extending it to 7-3, Jackson.

Marian Ancilla ended up scoring a single run in each of the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings, but Jackson bettered that with 1 run in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, and 3 in the 6th, ultimately winning 13-6. Freshman Abigail Heaston drove in the run for the Chargers in the 4th on a single to first base. Mulbarger grounded into a fielder's choice in the 5th inning, but before the out was recorded, Freshman Brooklynn Cooper crossed the plate safely. And Abby Witt drove in the final Charger run in the 6th on a double to center, allowing Heaston to score.

Hoffman (1-6) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers and credited with the loss. She was able to pitch all 6.0 innings and struck out 4 batters along the way.

Game-2 (L 19-1): The second game of the day saw the Jackson Jets score 5 runs in the 1st inning, 13 runs in the 2nd innings, and their final run in the 3rd inning. The Chargers did cross the plate in the top of the 4th inning, as Samantha Hoffman reached on an error, allowing Abigail Heaston to score. Alyssa Mulbarger (0-1) recorded the loss as the starting pitcher; it was her first decision of the season.

The Marian Ancilla softball team returns to the field this Friday, when they head to Lake Michigan College for another double-header. Game times are set for 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. ET. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
