Chargers Finish Season Series With Glen Oaks

Monday, the Marian University Ancilla softball team was able to make up a double-header postponement with Glen Oaks Community College. Unfortunately for the Chargers, the Vikings swept the pair of games, 9-1 and 14-0. Below is a quick look at some highlights from each of the games in yesterday's action.

Game-1 (L 9-1): The Chargers tallied the first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning, as Freshman Samantha Hoffman doubled to score Freshman Alyssa Mulbarger. The Vikings would respond with a run in the top of the 2nd, and another run in the top of the 4th, but it was just 2-1 through 4 complete innings.

In the 5th inning, the Vikings were able to break things open, scoring 5 runs in the top of the frame, making it a 7-1 lead. They would later score two more runs in the top of the 6th inning, and the game was over, 9-1 after they recorded three finals outs.

Hoffman (1-9) pitched another solid outing, going 6.0 innings, walking just one Viking while striking out three. Freshman Abby Witt recorded the other hit, a single, for Marian Ancilla.

Game-2 (L 14-0): Glen Oaks controlled the second game from beginning to end, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st, then another 9 in the top of the 3rd, with their final run coming in the top of the 4th for the 14-0, 5-inning win.

The Chargers did get 5 hits in the game and only struck out once, but none of the 5 hits advanced them beyond first base. Freshman Abigail Heaston did sacrifice bunt to move Alyssa Mulbarger to second base, but that's as close as they came to scoring. Mulbarger finished with 2 hits, Heaston had 1 hit, while Freshmen Ambrosia Mason and Keely Qualkenbush each added a single of their own.

Abby Witt (0-3) was credited with the loss following her 2.1 innings of work in the pitching circle. Heaston pitched the final 2.2 innings for the Chargers.

The Charger softball team is back in action this Wednesday, as their Friday home double-header with Kalamazoo Valley has been moved up due to impending weather. Start times are set for 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
