Softball Season Comes to an End

Softball Season Comes to an End

Playing short-handed for much of the year, the Marian University Ancilla softball team saw the conclusion of their season on Saturday, as they hosted Lake Michigan College. The Red Hawks were explosive, offensively, winning both games decidedly (21-3 & 24-0). Below is a quick look at some notes from Saturday's action.

Game-1 (L 21-3): The Chargers actually jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning, as their top three hitters all singled and scored. Freshmen Alyssa MulbargerAbigail Heaston, and Samantha Perry managed to cross the plate early in this one, as Freshmen Ambrosia Mason and Justice Billingsley picked up RBIs. Freshman Abby Witt was also 2-for-2 in the contest, including a double, and soccer Sophomore Roxie Foerg picked up a hit, but those three runs were all the Chargers would muster in this one. Billingsley (0-9), who has seen a lot of time in the pitching circle and steadily improved, was credited in the loss in this one.

The Red Hawks used a couple of Charger errors and more than 20 hits, including three doubles and a triple, to reach their 21 runs. They also stole eight bases in the outing. The Red Hawk pitching staff allowed just two hits after the first inning and struck out five Charger batters in total.

Game-2 (L 24-0): The second game of the day also went the way of the Red Hawks, as pitcher Karly Manning threw a no-hitter, racking up nine strikeouts in five innings, as well. They once again eclipsed 20 hits on their way to 24 runs.

Charger Freshman Justice Billingsley (0-10) again pitched the entire game, and she ultimately faced 92 total batters on the afternoon.

The MUAC Athletic Department would like to thank the softball ladies who completed the entirety of the season, and we would like to issue a special thanks to the basketball and soccer ladies who filled in at times so games could be played!!
