The Lakeland women's soccer team played host to the Ancilla College Chargers and came away with a 2-1 overtime victory today at Lakers Field. With the win, The Lakers improved their record to 4-4 (2-3) on the season. Mya Cannaday (Brush HS) came up big for the Lakers as she netted both goals.  Her first goal was scored at the 12 minute mark when she picked up a loose ball and dribbled around a defender and then was able to neatly tuck it past the keeper. It stayed that way until the 80th minute when the Chargers Hailey Sanders split the defense and then tipped the ball to herself past a diving Sarah Turniski (Willoughby South) where she then put it into an empty net.

Both teams continued to battle with Lakeland still carrying a good amount of the play, but neither team was able to score again in regulation. In overtime, Lakeland wasted little time as they netted the golden goal just one minute into the first extra session.  Michell Molina (Heritage Christian) and Bridgette Karr (Eastlake North) carried the ball deep into the zone with some nifty passing before Karr found Cannaday alone in front of the net. Cannaday wasted no time as she two touched the game winner high into the net from about 8 yards out.

The Lakers outshot the Chargers 19-6. Turniski earned the win in net making 5 saves.

Sivik's Sentiments: "Our team was missing a couple of starters, but we also started off very slow. A couple of players needed to play different positions thanwhat they are used to, but we were able to do enough to get the win. Our buildup in OT was very nicewith some combination playwith Michell and Bridgette and then finding Mya for the game winner."

Next up: The Lakers will travel to Donaldson, IN on Sunday in a rematch with the Ancilla Chargers at noon.
