After the week they've had, the Marian University Ancilla baseball coaches might want to see their team just stay in Florida. The Chargers finished the Spring Break trip 7-1 and move to 10-4 overall on the season. Those 10 wins are already one more than the team had all of last season. Additionally, they have scored 111 runs in 14 games, where as last year they only managed 163 runs through 47 games. Obviously, the offense has been a big part of their success, though their pitching has improved as well. Below is a look at the final two games from the Chargers' outstanding week in the Sunshine State.

GAME-1: MUAC woke up ready to play Friday morning, and it showed. Despite an error and a walk in the top of the 1st inning, they were able to get to the bottom half unscathed. Then they really came alive. The Chargers singled, reached on an error, then walked to load the bases before an out was recorded. Sophomore Tyler Bumbalough then lined a single to right field, scoring two runs, and it was 2-0 Chargers early. Sophomore Hunter Smith grounded into a fielder's choice, but Sophomore Austin Hear was able to score, and it was 3-0 MUAC. Following a strikeout, the Chargers managed a walk and a hit batsman, and the bases were once again juiced. Sophomore James Riddle then showed patience and walked in a run, bringing Sophomore Conner Boone to the plate. The strong-hitting shortstop blasted a line drive double to center field, sending all three teammates home, and the Chargers led Lake Region State College (ND) 7-0 after 1 inning. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Chargers again got on the board, when Sophomore Jomar Negron singled in Hear. Freshman Blaze Schultz then hit into a fielder's choice, but Smith came in to score, and it was 9-0 for the navy & gold. The Royals got one back in the top of the 3rd inning, following a pair of walks and a single; 9-1 MUAC. Then, in the top of the 4th, it seemed like Lake Region had figured it out, as they strung together a pair of walks, three singles, and a double, and suddenly it was just 9-6 Chargers. But MUAC got their 10th run in the bottom of the 4th when Hear used some nifty base-running. He walked to lead off the inning, advanced to second base on a passed ball, stole third base on the next pitch, then scored on a passed ball three pitches later. The score would stand at 10-6 until the top of the 6th. The Royals then cut it to 10-7 on a Charger error. As time was running out on the Royals, they found their offense again in the top of the 8th. With one out, Lake Region stacked up two singles, a double, then another single, and it was now tied at 10 apiece. Fortunately for the Chargers, they had been in these situations all week. They immediately responded in the bottom of the 8th inning, as they sent 11 batters to the plate, adding 6 more runs, for the final tally of 16-10. Negron drove in a run with his double, Schultz drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Riddle walked in another run, Boone drove in a runner on a shallow pop-up, Sophomore Kennon Kemp knocked one in on a fielder's choice, and Hear finished it by driving in a run on a line drive single to left. Freshman pitcher Jaden Franceschina got his fourth start of the young season, but it was fellow Freshman Cooper Gorgievski (2-0) who picked up his second win in relief. Sophomore Nolan Green has been the guy closing things out, thus far, and he picked up his 5th save of the year in this one.

GAME-2: The second game, against Erie Community College (NY), had a little back-and-forth as well early, but the Chargers took command late, winning 12-4. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Erie strung together three consecutive 2-out singles to go up 1-0. It wasn't until the top of the 3rd inning that Marian Ancilla would get on the board. The Chargers used a single and a walk to place two on base, then Tyler Bumbalough cleared them on a line drive double to center, and it was 2-1 MUAC. In the top of the 4th, three consecutive singles scored Blaze Schultz, with Sophomore Rudy Ramos picking up the RBI; 3-1 MUAC. The Kats bounced back in the bottom of the 4th, however, utilizing a couple of singles and an error, tying the game, 3-3. But as they have done all week, the Chargers found an inning to open it up. In the top of the 6th, Marian Ancilla used a walk, a hit batsman, and an error, plus five singles, to post a 6 on the scoreboard, and suddenly it was 9-3, Chargers. Ramos, Conner Boone, and Kennon Kemp each drove in a run on singles, then Sophomore Matteo Lindia reached on an error, scoring a pair of teammates. Schultz finished it with another RBI single. The top of the 7th inning brought three more runs for the Chargers via three walks, Ramos scoring on a wild pitch, Austin Hear grounding out and scoring James Riddle, then Bumbalough lining a single to center, scoring Kemp. Now, with a 12-3 lead, the Chargers just needed some defense and pitching. Erie managed a run in the bottom of the 7th inning, then the Charger bullpen took over and finished the game. MUAC got a nice outing from Sophomore Nathan Marshman, who moved to 3-1 on the year. The 5-10 righty worked 7 strong innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 4. Once again, Nolan Green came in to secure the win, striking out two of the three batters he faced in the 9th inning, while picking up his 6th save of the season. Freshman Nico Galea also did a nice job out of the pen, working a scoreless 8th inning.

Marian Ancilla will take a few days off before returning to action on Sunday, March 17th. That day they will head to Indianapolis to take on Marian University's Junior Varsity squad in a double-header. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET, with the second game set to start at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
