Saturday, the Marian University Ancilla Charger baseball team hosted Community Christian College (MI) in an afternoon double-header. The Chargers used power at the plate and solid pitching, as they moved to 12-4 on the year and extended their winning streak to eight games.

In the opening matchup, the Chargers erupted for 12 runs in the 1st inning, leading them to a 17-1, 5-inning victory over the visiting Lions. Sophomore Nathan Marshman (4-1) continued his strong work on the mound, pitching all 5 innings, allowing the 1 run on just 2 walks and a hit, plus he struck out 6 batters on the way to his 4th win of the season. Sophomore catcher Austin Hear and Sophomore designated hitter Matteo Lindia each bashed their first home runs of the season, while Hear drove in 5 runs on the day and Lindia plated 4. Freshman Diego Pettiford, who has been invaluable as a courtesy runner this season, stole his 6th base of the year in the win.

The second game was more of a concerted effort at the plate, as six different players drove in runs in the 13-3, 6-inning triumph. Sophomore shortstop Conner Boone drove in 4 runs from the leadoff spot on two singles and a sacrifice fly. He also caused problems for the Lions on the basepaths, stealing two bags. Freshman third baseman Blaze Schultz and Sophomore Lincoln Parrish each reached base safely three times, while combining to score 5 of the 13 runs on the afternoon. Sophomore Christian Conder went 5 solid innings, allowing 3 runs while striking out 2, and Sophomore Nolan Green continued to be a strong bullpen arm, picking up his 7th save of the season. Green has struck out 11 batters in 9.2 innings of relief, while posting a team-best 1.86 ERA and 1.24 WHIP.

Thank you to the students, faculty, and staff who made it out to support the MUAC baseball team Saturday!!
