This past weekend the Marian University Ancilla baseball team played a 4-game weekend series with the Kellogg Community College Bruins. For Saturday afternoon's double-header, the Chargers were in Battle Creek, Michigan, where they found base-runners tough to come by in the first game, falling 7-0. In the second matchup of the day, the Chargers found some offense later in the game, but they were unfortunately still on the losing side, this time 10-4. Below is a quick look at some highlights from Saturday's games.

Game-1 (L 7-0): Kellogg got a great outing from pitcher Gavin Beuter (4-3), who pitched nearly the entire game, 6.2 innings to be exact, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk to Charger batters, while striking out 9. Charger Freshman Jaden Franceschina (3-4) was credited with the loss, but he did rack up 5.2 innings on the mound. Freshman Blaze Schultz managed both a single and a walk for Marian Ancilla. Freshman John Morgan was also able to reach via a walk, while Sophomore Kennon Kemp laid down his team-leading 5th sacrifice bunt of the year.

Game-2 (L 10-4): MUAC got the scoring started in the top of the 3rd inning in this one. Sophomore Conner Boone hit a 1-out single to right field, then eventually stole second base. With two outs, Sophomore Austin Hear hit a line drive at the left fielder, who misplayed it, allowing Boone to score, and it was 1-0 Chargers. Kellogg responded in the bottom of the inning with a pair of walks, 3 singles, and a double, and it was suddenly 5-1 Bruins. Kellogg added to their lead the very next inning, using 2 walks and 2 doubles to add 2 runs, and it was 7-1 Bruins.

But the Chargers battled back in the top of the 5th inning, cutting the deficit to 7-4. John Morgan was issued a 1-out walk, then with 2 outs, Freshman Cade Riley singled. Hear doubled to score both runners, then Freshman Isaiah Steinhilber singled to score Freshman Diego Pettiford, who was pinch-running for Hear. Blaze Schultz also singled in the inning, but no runs were to come from it.

The Chargers threatened again in the top of the 6th, getting two runners aboard with 2 outs, but no one was able to circle the bases. In the bottom of the inning, however, the Bruins finished this one off, as they manufactured 3 insurance runs to put it out of reach at 10-4. Hear did lead off with a single to start the 7th inning, but 3 pitches later and a double play erased any chance for Marian Ancilla to score again.
