Chargers Visit U.S. Steel Yard, Face Prairie State College

Sunday night, the Marian University Ancilla baseball team enjoyed a trip to the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana, home of the RailCats, where they took on Prairie State College in a single 9-inning game. Though a fun, memborable experience for the Chargers, the Pioneers left with the 15-1 victory.

The Pioneers used a combination of 11 singles, a double, and a triple, along with 10 walks, to score 4 runs in the 2nd inning, 8 runs in the 5th inning, and 3 runs in the 7th inning. Nathan OdairaFelix Arias, and Anthony Dapice each drove in 3 runs for the Pioneers.

The Chargers' lone run came in the top of the 8th inning. Freshman Traevyn Shoaf hit a 1-out single to center field, then Sophomore Nathan Marshman hit a ground ball to short. Marshman reached safely on an error and Shoaf advanced to second base. Shoaf then stole third base and later came around to score.

Charger Sophomore Christian Conder (2-2) pitched 4.1 innings before being injured, and he took the loss on the evening. The Pioneers got a strong outing from starter Joseph Marin, who went 7.2 innings, allowing the one run on a pair of hits and a walk. Marin also struck out 10 batters.

Pending this week's weather, the MUAC baseball team is scheduled to play Thursday against Lansing Community College at home in Donaldson, Indiana. Game times are set for 2:00 and 4:30 p.m. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
