The Southern Spring Break trip continued for the Charger Baseball team Wednesday, as they faced off twice against Bryant & Stratton College from Wisconsin. Marian Ancilla won the first of two games by a 10-7 tally, but they fell in the rematch by a 17-3 margin. Below is a quick look at each of the two games from Wednesday's action at the RussMatt Invitational.

GAME-1 (W 10-7): In the first game of the day, Bryant & Stratton and Marian University Ancilla went back & forth throughout, fighting until the end, with the Chargers ultimately coming out on top. Both teams scored 2 runs in the 1st inning. The Bobcats then took a 5-2 lead in the top of the 3rd, while Marian Ancilla answered with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th, making it 6-5. The Chargers once again responded with another 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, extending their lead to 10-5, before the Bobcats made one last attempt, scoring 2 final runs in the top of the 7th, but it wasn't enough.

For the Chargers, Sophomore Isaiah Steinhilber was 2-for-4 in the game with a double, plus he drove in 3 runs. Sophomore John Morgan drove in a pair of runs, while Freshmen Logan Clark and Tanner Coble were each credited with an RBI as well. Freshman starter Patrick Barry (1-0) pitched 6 solid innings, allowing just 3 earned runs while striking out 4 batters. He picked up his first win of the season on the hill.

GAME-2 (L 17-3): Despite Marian Ancilla scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning to jump in front, the second game was a shortened 5-inning contest, as the Bobcats rallied with 13 runs in the bottom of the 1st, owning an overwhelming 13-2 lead after just one frame. The Chargers would go on to add another run in the top of the 2nd, but the Bobcats scored 4 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, providing the final margin of 17-3. The combination of 6 walks, 4 hit batsmen, and 2 errors led to nearly all of Bryant & Stratton's runs in this one. Marian Ancilla's Isaiah Steinhilber continued his solid day at the plate, hitting another double and driving in one more run. Logan Clark and Freshman Wes McNeff drove in the other two runs for the Chargers. Sophomore starting pitcher Jaden Franceschina (0-1) picked up his first decision of this short season. Freshman Hunter Williams came on to pitch a scoreless 4th inning for MUAC.

The Chargers finish their Southern swing with two final games this Friday. At 9:00 a.m. they will take on Owens Community College from Ohio, then at 12:30 p.m. they face off against Century College from Minnesota. Good luck to the Marian University Ancilla Baseball team as they look to finish their long road trip on a high note!!
