Due to potential weather issues yesterday (Saturday), the Marian University Ancilla Baseball team moved their Saturday double-header up to Friday, as they took on Glen Oaks Community College four times across Thursday and Friday. Thursday, the Chargers traveled to Centreville, Michigan, falling 11-4 and 6-2, while Friday they hosted the Vikings, again finding themselves on the short end of 20-4 and 7-4 results. Below is a quick look at each of those four games.
GAME-1 (L 11-4): It took the Chargers a few innings to warm up their bats, but once they did, they scored 4 runs in the final 3 innings. Freshman Wes McNeff continued his strong week with a 1-for-2 performance, including a run driven in. Sophomore Traevyn Shoaf knocked a double, two singles, and stole a base. Freshman Aayden Antoine also posted a pair of hits, both singles, while Freshman Logan Clark drove in a pair of runs. Redshirt Freshman Aiden Diaz (0-5) was able to go 5 innings, striking out 7 batters.
GAME-2 (L 6-2): In the second game Thursday, the Chargers kept the bats hot, briefly, as they score the first 2 runs of the game, then they couldn't find the plate again. Sophomore John Morgan drove in Traevyn Shoaf, who led off the game with a triple. Then Wes McNeff hit a double to score Morgan, and it was quickly 2-0. McNeff finished with a single as well to go 2-for-4 in this contest. Sophomore Blaze Schultz (0-5) started and went 3 1/3 innings, while Freshman Kaleb Short pitched 2 2/3 solid innings, allowing just 1 run while striking out 3 Vikings.
GAME-3 (L 20-4): In the first game Friday afternoon, the Vikings of Glen Oaks opened and closed aggressively, scoring 5 runs in the top of the 1st inning and 8 runs in the top of the 7th inning. Everything in between was an entertaining, competitive game. MUAC Freshman Evan Lanphier (0-6) was credited with the loss. Freshman Dylan Ford, one of 5 Charger pitchers used in this matchup, probably had the best performance. He was called on very early, he managed 3 solid innings, and he struck out 4 batters. John Morgan singled and drove in a run, Wes McNeff hit a 3-run home run, his 3rd home run of the week, Sophomore Blaze Schultz tallied a double, while Freshman Jaxson Hixson was 3-for-3 and scored a run.
GAME-4 (L 7-4): In the final game of the 4-game series, Glen Oaks got hot early, scoring all 7 of their runs in the first 3 innings, while the Chargers tried to rally, scoring 3 runs in the final 3 innings, but fell just short. Marian Ancilla Freshman Tanner Coble (0-2) had a tough start to the game on the mound, but he battled through to pitch 3 1/3 innings. Freshman Aiden Marcus finished the last 3 2/3 innings, not allowing a run. Jaxson Hixson was again 3-for-3 in this game, he doubled, scored a run, and he drove in 2 of the other 3 runs. Logan Clark drove in the fourth run on a sacrifice fly, while Traevyn Shoaf collected 2 singles of his own. John Morgan and Freshman Jose Paris each had a single, with Morgan swiping a bag as well.
The Chargers now have a few days to enjoy Easter weekend and get back to work. They next play Thursday (4/24) when they host Kellogg Community College. First pitch for that double-header is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Please come out and support the guys, if you are able!!
