Seven Chargers Receive Postseason Awards

                Seven Ancilla College basketball players received postseason conference and regional awards Tuesday.  Freshman Jakylen Thomas made the biggest haul. The Marion native received the Michigan Community College Athletic Association West Player of the Year award; Freshman of the Year award; MCCAA First Team; All-Region 12 and All-Freshman Team.

                Rico Swanson, Jr. of South Bend was First Team MCCAA and All-Region 12. Caleb Brown (Indianapolis) was First Team MCCAA. Marco Beverly (Anderson) was the MCCAA West Defensive Player of the year, Second Team MCCAA and on the All-Defensive Team. Cortney Shorter (Fort Wayne) was MCCAA All-Defensive Team and Honorable Mention All-MCCAA.

                A pair of South Bend natives, Brock Cosey and Shak Johnson, received MCCAA Honorable Mention awards.

                Ancilla heads to the NJCAA National tournament in Danville, IL next week. A fifth seed, the chargers will meet the 12th seed Southern Arkansas University Tech at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12.  In their first national tournament appearance, Ancilla finished eighth in the tournament in 2019.
