Chargers Return from Break, Fall at Illinois Central

Wednesday evening, the Marian University Ancilla men's basketball team took to the court for the first time since December 16th as they headed to Illinois Central College. While they battled throughout, trailing just 32-28 to the Cougars (10-2) at the half, the Chargers eventually fell on the road, 80-64.

Illinois Central made 6 more field goals on 4 fewer attempts, ultimately leading to a 41-32 rebounding advantage for the Cougars. ICC also outscored the Chargers by 7 points at the charity stripe, as MUAC managed just 7-15 from the line throughout the game.

The Chargers did get 16 points apiece from Freshmen guards Kameron Hordge and Marcellous Boyd. The two combined for a 5-8 performance from behind the arc, while the rest of the team was just 2-8 from outside. Freshman front-liner Clayton Bubash nearly managed a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds, 5 of which came at the offensive end of the floor.

Illinois Central got a big game out of Sophomore forward LaColis Ashby Jr., who scored 22 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and added 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots. Freshman guard Azarion Richardson added 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Sophomore guard Tony Mabon Jr. scored 16 points, to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Marian Ancilla men's basketball team will NOT play their game scheduled for Saturday, January 6th, as that game has been cancelled. They are in action next on Wednesday, January 10th, when they host CBG Prep at Charger Arena in Plymouth at 7:00 p.m. ET. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
