Due to a rash of illness going through the team, the Marian University Ancilla men's basketball team found themselves a little short-handed on Wednesday night, as they started three players who are normally reserves, and they played a couple of starters minimal minutes off the bench. By the end of it, the Chargers had battled to a formidable 87-78 defeat.

The Chargers were hurt most along the frontline, losing the rebounding battle, 35-24. Southwestern Michigan also outscored the Chargers by 13 at the free throw line and by 18 points from beyond the 3-point arc. Still, MUAC battled throughout and fought back from a 16-point halftime deficit to give themselves a chance at the end.

Marian Ancilla got a nice contribution out of Freshman Jayden Sanders, who scored 22 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, handed out 3 assists, picked up 2 steals, and blocked a pair of shots. Sophomore DeAndre Coleman was an efficient 6-11 from the field, including a hot 5-9 from 3-point range, scoring 17 points in total. He also stole the ball 6 times. Freshman Kameron Hordge also scored in double figures with 13 points, while Freshman Tyshaun Grundy came off the bench to provide 4 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds.

The Roadrunners of Southwestern Michigan had three players find their way to double digits, led by Rodell Davis Jr. with 25 points on an impressive 6-7 from the field, 6-6 from 3-point range, and also a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Mari Nichols had 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Rashawn Bost scored 16 points, pulled down 6 rebounds, and handed out 7 assists. Aries Hull just missed a triple-double, with 9 points and 12 rebounds, 6 of which were offensive.

The Chargers are back in action this Saturday, as they head to Glen Oaks Community College for a 3:00 p.m. ET matchup. The women's game begins at 1:00 p.m. ET. Please come out and support the Charger teams!!
