3-Point Shooting & Turnovers Big Factors in Charger Loss

The Marian University Ancilla men's basketball team tried but couldn't quite keep up with the MCCAA Western Division leading Cougars of Kalamazoo Valley Community College Wednesday night. Despite a strong effort and scoring 69 points, it just wasn't enough, as the Cougars saw two players combine for 54 of their 100 points.

KVCC came out on fire, burying 13 of their 18 made 3-pointers in the first half, allowing them to jump out to a 55-34 halftime lead. That in itself was a tough enough uphill climb for the Chargers, but besides being outscored by 45 points by the Cougars from beyond the arc, there was also a 19-9 turnover differential that benefitted Kalamazoo Valley.

Freshman Marcellous Boyd had a nice game for the Chargers, scoring 18 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Sophomore Ben Jones was the only other double-figure scorer with 10 points, plus he posted a double-double with his 10 rebounds, 6 of which came at the offensive end of the floor. Freshman Jayden Sanders was also strong on the boards, collecting 11 caroms.

Kalamazoo Valley got a 29-point performance from Joe Liedel, as he was 11-18 from the field, a blistering 7-12 from deep, and he hauled in 10 rebounds for the double-double. Ashton Atwater added 25 points, including his impressive 6-7 performance from deep.

The Chargers return to action this Saturday, as they host Lake Michigan College during "Sophomore Day". Please come out and support our sophomores who have put in their time and effort these last two seasons. The women's game is set for 1:00 p.m. ET, with the sophomore ceremonies to follow, then the men's game at approximately 3:30p. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
