The Marian Ancilla Men's Basketball team put together strong preseason performances in October, but this past Friday, everything began counting. The Chargers attended the Lorain County Community College Classic, where they took on Clark State Friday and host Lorain County Saturday. By the time the dust settled and the weekend ended, the Chargers were staring at a 2-0 record to begin their year.

Friday afternoon, Marian Ancilla defeated Clark State 74-66. The Chargers didn't defend well out of the gate, plus they compounded it with turnovers, finding themselves trailing 44-39 at the half. After some halftime adjustments, they came out and controlled the second half, winning it 35-22. "I feel like our urgency improved defensively in the second half, and we were able to separate and get the win because of it," pointed out Charger Head Coach Aaron Butcher.

Three players scored in double figures for Marian Ancilla, with Freshman wing Jordan Woods leading the way with a game high of 24 points...not to mention 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Sophomore forward Jayden Sanders contributed 13 points and 5 rebounds to the win, while Sophomore forward Dante Porch provided 10 points, a pair of rebounds, and a pair of assists off the bench. Sophomore guard Sean Kimble approached a double-double with his 9 points and 8 rebounds. Isaiah Masteller led Clark State with 23 points on 10-19 shooting.

Saturday afternoon, the Chargers returned to the Ewing Activities Center to face the host Lorain County Commodores. With a major focus on defense, Marian Ancilla held Lorain County scoreless for the first 12:20 of the game. "Our defense set the tone early, as we were able to turn stops into transition opportunities offensively and put a lot of pressure on them," noted Coach Butcher. Indeed they did, doubling up the Commodores by a 114-57 margin.

In their second outing, Saturday, Freshman wing Jordan Woods once again topped all scorers with another 24 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals. Sophomore Dante Porch scored 20 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, nearly posting a double-double. 6-8 Freshman Davione Doty did post a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds off the bench. Freshman guard Matt King was a fourth double-digit scorer with 13 points. Lorain County was led by Miles Isabel with 17 points.

The Chargers are on the road most of November, and they now prepare for their game at Danville Area Community College on Wednesday. Tip time for that is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT. Please come out and support these young men, if you are able!!
