This past Thursday was a time to feast with family & friends, but Charger Men's Basketball Sophomore Dante Porch extended that beyond Thanksgiving to Saturday afternoon's action. The Chargers hosted the Lions of Community Christian College (MI), and the 6-5 second-year wing poured in 27 points and collected 15 rebounds, as Marian Ancilla posted an impressive 120-75 outcome.
Porch has been relied upon from the bench all season, but he has made the most of it, placing second on the team in scoring (14.3 ppg) and third in rebounding (6.3 rpg), while shooting a blistering 59% from the field (60-101 FGs) and 50% from 3-point range (12-24 3pt FGs) through 10 games. But with the team scoring 120 points, he wasn't the only one to have a strong Saturday.
Redshirt Freshman Kenneth Grant also offered bench support. He entered late in the first half and immediately ripped off three consecutive 3-pointers. On the day, he finished 4-10 from downtown and had 16 points in total, to go along with 5 rebounds.
The starting backcourt of Freshmen Matt King & Jordan Woods, plus Sophomore Ashton Oviedo, combined for 45 points, 14 rebounds, and 13 assists, while burying 8 of 12 shots from range. This was Woods' first game back in exactly two weeks, and he dished out 9 of those 13 assists. Forwards Jayden Sanders and Davione Doty also helped in the paint, pairing up for 16 points and 15 rebounds.
The Chargers have one more game before they adjourn for finals week in eight days. Wednesday, they host the Bosco Institute, a prep school specifically for 5th year high school Seniors. This is part of a double-header with the Women's Basketball team, so tip time for the Men is at approximately 7:30 p.m. at the LifePlex. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
