The MCCAA Western Division for Men's Basketball this season has proven to be incredibly tough thus far. With every win being of great value, and with teams starting to beat up on each other, the Marian University Ancilla Men want to stay above .500 to help secure a postseason bid. Grand Rapids entered Monday night's matchup sitting at 16-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference, so it was going to be no easy task for the Chargers. However, Marian Ancilla led most of the game, securing their third MCCAA win of the season, holding on to defeat the Raiders, 89-84.
The Chargers did a tremendous job taking care of the ball with just 7 turnovers, and they outscored the Raiders from the free throw line, 27-8. Additionally, they had 5 players score in double digits, and they shot 41.7% (10-24) from 3-point range.
Freshman guard Jordan Woods (22 points, 5 assists) and Sophomore forward Jayden Sanders (20 points, 8 rebounds) stood out for the Chargers last night. Freshman guard Matt King (16 points, 3 rebounds), Sophomore guard Ashton Oviedo (11 points), and Freshman forward Davione Doty (10 points, 4 rebounds) also scored in double figures for the navy & gold.
The Chargers must now prepare for a quick turn-around, as they will host Lake Michigan College Wednesday evening at the LifePlex. The game is part of a double-header with the Women's team, so anticipated tip time for the Men is 7:30 p.m. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
