The Charger Men's Basketball team got a tremendous defensive effort, the third triple-double of the season from Freshman guard Jordan Woods, and secured a spot in the Great Lakes District A Championship's Final Four this weekend with an 83-62 win against Grand Rapids Community College.

Marian Ancilla came out from the tip defending as well as they have all season. They made shots tough on the Raiders and forced them to shoot just 36.2% (21-58 FGs) from the field Tuesday night. And it seemed like everyone at each position was bought in and determined not to let their matchup score all evening. Grand Rapids came in averaging 92 points per game, but they were held to their lowest output of the season, 10 points shy of the previous low of 72.

As for the offensive end of the floor, the aforementioned Woods was 4-5 from long range, leading to 22 points, plus he hauled in 10 rebounds and assisted on 12 of his teammates' baskets. Freshman guard Matt King (6 rebounds, 4 assists) and Sophomore forward Jayden Sanders (5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) each scored 16 points, while Freshman forward Davione Doty (8 rebounds, 3 steals) joined them in double digits with 10 points. The Chargers also limited themselves to just 7 turnovers in the game.

Next up for Marian Ancilla is a trip to Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan, on Thursday. The Chargers will take on Bay College at 4:00 p.m. in a Bracket A semifinal. With a win, the Chargers would advance to the championship game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and a chance to play for a trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. Good luck to the Charger men on a big weekend!!
