PLYMOUTH, IN – It was a week of beautiful weather, as 128 golfers from 20 teams all over the United States competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II golf tournament at Swan Lake, located in Plymouth, Indiana.
On the Black Course, where par is 72, Walters State Community College claimed first place with a four day team total of 1189. Eleven strokes behind the Senators, in second place, were the Thunderbirds of Mesa Community College (1200), while Mississippi Gulf Coast took third with 1214.
The hosting Ancilla College Chargers finished 19th, despite higher expectations. Spencer Mortola led the Charger team, shooting 32 over par (320). Austin Stonebraker had 337, while Jacob Shaw had 351. Jack Leland finished the four days with a total of 361.
Ancilla coach Marc Hayden commented, "It was another great year hosting the national tournament. Chad [Hutsell] and his team did a fantastic job with everything, which allowed the tournament to be a success. Seeing all of the colleges competing over the course of the week solidified the value of this tournament. As for our team, they put forth a positive effort, but couldn't capitalize in key situations."
