Clark Leads New-Look Men's Golf Team In Season-Opening Tournament

The MU Ancilla Men's Golf Team kicked off their spring schedule by hosting the MU Ancilla Invitational at Swan Lake Resort.  With a roster of 5 freshman getting their first experiences in college golf, there were some predictable growing pains and lessons learned by the Chargers in their first competition.  Andy Clark led the way with a solid round of 81 which was good enough to land him in 13th place in the field of 45 competitors.  The Chargers finished with a team score of 446 which left them in 8th place.  Mott CC took the team championship with a score of 315.

Coach Andrew Dreibelbis is expecting big things from Clark, his most experienced player this spring.  "Andy is a really solid player who had a great fall for us.  I feel very confident that he will continue to improve this spring and be ready to peak at the right time for post-season play."

The rest of the lineup consisted of 4 freshman, with the majority getting their first exposure to college tournament golf.  Dylan Pohl carded the 2nd best score on the team followed by Ethan Osowski, Bryan Chavero, and Reecs Hamblen.  All 4 players are dual-sport athletes with Pohl a member of the bowling team, Osowski a member of the men's basketball team, while Chavero and Hamblen both are members of the wrestling team.

Coach Dreibelbis has been encouraged by what he has seen so far from his young guys.  "All four of our dual-sport athletes are competitors which will help them throughout the spring.  We are looking to improve individually and as a team.  The mindset is there to make that happen."

The Chargers will return to action on Friday, April 14th when they travel to the Glen Oaks Invitational.
