Men's Soccer Ends Season on High Note, Defeats Jackson 3-1

The Charger men's soccer team knew regardless of their outcome today, it would be the end of their 2023 season, and the young squad left everything out on the field, defeating the Jets of Jackson College 3-1 on the Donaldson, Indiana, campus.

Midfielder Jared Garcia got things started 14 minutes into the contest, richocheting a shot off of a Jet into the Jackson goal. Approximately 10 minutes later, the Jets responded with their own goal, balancing the score at one goal apiece. However, with about 14 minutes remaining in the first half, the Freshman Garcia took a beautiful crosser from Freshman midfielder Santiago Morales and deposited his second goal in the back of the Jackson net.

The second half saw a great deal of back & forth by both teams, and the score remained in favor of Marian Ancilla, 2-1. Then, with 15 minutes remaining in the season, roles were reversed and it was Garcia finding Morales for one final goal, followed by more lockdown defense, capping off a 3-1 win by the Chargers. Freshman goalkeeper Ashton Macedonio managed seven saves in the victory.

Head Coach Kirk Weiss was highly encouraged following the contest, exclaiming, "I couldn't be prouder of these guys. The way they battled today and kept the cooler heads throughout the game shows the program is headed in the right direction. Ending the season winning four of the last six says a lot about a team with all Freshmen. These guys came in knowing they couldn't play in the postseason because of things that happened before any of us got here, but they never stopped working. This is a season we build on and get the program back where it belongs!"

Congratulations to the Charger men's soccer team on a strong final month of the season, leaving us excited about what the future might hold in the Fall of 2024!!
