The Marian Ancilla Men's Soccer team continued their winning ways, extending their streak of consecutive wins to three matches, and extending their overall record to 8-4 on the year (1-3 in the MCCAA). The Chargers got on the board early, added a late tally at the end of the first half, and used quality defense and ball control in the second half to hold off the host Jackson Jets, 2-0.
It took just a minute and eight seconds to find the net for the Chargers, as Freshman Jonathan Monjaraz scored in the second minute of the contest. After an extended period of play without a score, it was then Freshman Bawi Za Sang, the teams leading goal scorer, who put one between the pipes in the 44th minute. Both goals drew assists from Freshman Yeffreys Quintanilla, who has put together his best soccer for the Chargers over the past two weeks.
The second half wasn't nearly as exciting in terms of scoring, but the Chargers were able to control tempo and time of possession, plus Redshirt Freshman Trent Platz was flawless in goal, holding the Jets scoreless throughout the contest.
As for MUAC Head Coach Kirk Weiss, he was excited for the guys but knows there is still work to do. "For the second straight game, I felt like we controlled all aspects of the game. With four games to go, the team is coming together at the right time. We have two more tough road games this coming week, but we want to extend our winning streak. I couldn't be prouder of the guys."
The Charger Men's Soccer team is back in action with two road contests this coming week. Wednesday, they head to Owens Community College, while Saturday, they travel to Muskegon Community College. Wednesday's match is set for 1:00 p.m., while Saturday should kick off at 3:00 p.m. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
