Friday afternoon, the Marian University Ancilla softball team traveled North to Centreville, Michigan, to take on Glen Oaks Community College. The Chargers showed signs of improved play, especially in the first game of the double-header, but ultimately, they lost both MCCAA games. Below is a quick recap of the action from Friday, March 22nd.

GAME-1: The Chargers came out and scored early, leading the game 2-1 through 3 1/2 innings. In the top of the 1st, Freshman Alyssa Mulbarger reached on an infield single, then stole second and third base on back to back pitches. Freshman Abigail Heaston stepped to the plate and knocked a double to right field, scoring Mulbarger. The Vikings evened the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning on an RBI triple. But the Chargers would respond immediately, as Freshman Ambrosia Mason crushed her own triple to center field, followed by a sacrifice fly hit by Freshman Samantha Perry, scoring Mason, and that created the 2-1 lead. Mulbarger would later hit a 2-out single in the top of the 5th and steal another base, but that's as close as the Chargers would get to another run. Glen Oaks plated 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th, 1 in the bottom of the 5th, and 1 in the bottom of the 6th to win, 5-2. Freshman Samantha Hoffman (0-3) pitched all 6 innings, striking out 5 batters in the loss. It was also the first time this season she has gone an entire game without walking anyone.

GAME-2: Despite a good effort by the ladies, the second game of the afternoon showed how fatigue can quickly set in to this season's thin roster. Glen Oaks came out on a mission offensively, winning in 5 innings, 17-1. The Vikings scored 4 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd, 6 in the 3rd, and 5 in the 4th inning. The Chargers got their run in the top of the 5th inning. Freshman Justice Billingsley doubled to center field, then came around to score on a single by Alyssa Mulbarger. The Chargers used two pitchers, but Abigail Heaston (0-2) was credited with the loss.

The Marian Ancilla softball team has a nice stretch of home games coming up, including a double-header on Friday, March 29th, followed by a double-header on Saturday, March 30th. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
