As the Marian University Ancilla softball continued their long weekend, the Chargers traveled to Glen Oaks Community College Saturday, nearly pulling out a victory in the first game behind a nice pitching performance and some power hitting, but ultimately left with two more losses, 3-1 and 23-0. Below is a look at some highlights from Saturday's action.
Game-1 (L 3-1): The Chargers came out ready to play yesterday afternoon, and Freshman pitcher Samantha Hoffman (1-8) was locked in. She pitched all 6.0 innings, allowing just 4 hits and the 3 runs. Glen Oaks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th inning on a steal of home plate. But in the top of the 5th, Freshman Abigail Heaston stepped to the plate and drove a fly ball out to left. The ball cleared the fence for a home run, and the scored was tied 1-1. But the Vikings responded in the bottom of the inning, knocking in two more runs of their own with two outs, taking the 3-1 lead which stood up as the final score.
Freshman Justice Billingsley hit a pair of singles, while Freshmen Samantha Hoffman and Bella Mahan each had a single of their own, and Freshman Kylee Heard reached base safely on a walk.
Game-2 (L 23-0): The second game of the day was not nearly as kind to the Chargers, as they managed just one baserunner, a single to center by Freshman Alyssa Mulbarger to begin the 4th inning. Meanwhile, the Vikings reached safely via 15 hits, 5 walks, and a couple of MUAC errors. Billingsley (0-5) was credited with the pitching loss.
