Welcome Back! Chargers Win Home Opener!

The Marian University Ancilla Softball team began their season with a trip to sunny Arizona, but Tuesday evening they were back in action at their home field. The Chargers squared off against the Junior Varsity team from Indiana Wesleyan University, and they were able to play nearly their entire roster as they won, 10-2, in 5 innings against the Wildcats.

Freshman starting pitcher Kimberly Cummings (2-3) earned her second win of the season and was strong in the circle. She pitched the first two innings, then came in during the top of the 5th to secure the final two outs. All in all, Cummings pitched 2 2/3 innings, striking out 5 and allowing just a single hit.

Cummings joined Freshman Hannah Carter and Sophomore Avery Mason with success at the plate, as the three each hit 2 singles in the game. Carter and Mason each drove in a pair of runs as well. As for another highlight, Sophomore infielder Abigail Heaston hit what looked to be a routine fly ball to right field, but the wind got hold of it, and the ball reached the fence, allowing Heaston to tally a triple and score shortly thereafter.

The Softball team is now looking ahead to their first MCCAA conference opponent of the season, as they next host Glen Oaks on Friday in a double-header. Start times are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. against the Vikings. Please come out and support the ladies, if you are able. Good luck, Chargers!!
