Tough Day in the Field Yields Two Losses

Friday, the Marian University Ancilla Softball team headed to Lakeshore High School in Stevensville, Michigan, to take on Lake Michigan College in an MCCAA double-header. The Chargers had been on an uptick, playing well over their previous five games, winning three. But Friday proved to be much more difficult as they struggled through a combined 10 errors, losing to Lake Michigan 15-1 and 13-5. Below is a look at a few highlights from the day's action.

GAME-1 (L 15-1): The Chargers actually led this one 1-0 through 2 1/2 innings, as Freshman Hannah Carter drove in Freshman Cayla Beasley in the top of the 1st. However the Red Hawks put together back to back big innings, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th, jumping out to what ended up being the final score, 15-1. Freshman Kimberly Cummings (4-5) was credited with the loss, but Cummings, Beasley, and Freshman Tennley Werner combined for the 3 Charger singles in the game.

GAME-2 (L 13-5): Game #2 saw Marian Ancilla fall behind 9-0 through 2 innings, but they kept battling. In the top of the 3rd inning, Kimberly Cummings hit a 2-run home run over the center field fence, also driving in Sophomore Abigail Heaston. Then, in the top of the 5th inning, it was Hannah Carter who drove a ball over the center field fence for a 3-run shot, scoring Heaston and Cummings as well. Despite the power surge, that summed up the Chargers' scoring. Sophomore pitcher Samantha Hoffman (0-5) earned the decision in this one.

The Chargers schedule is now in limbo, as they had to postpone yesterday's double-header against Lansing Community College with a make-up date yet to be determined. Friday, they are scheduled to travel to Glen Oaks Community College for another MCCAA double-header. Please come out and support the ladies, if you area able!!
