Winter Sports Awards: Jayci Allen and Kyra Duncan Earn Multiple MCCAA/Region X11 Awards

The 2022-23 season was a historic season for the MU Ancilla Chargers Women's Basketball Team.  The 2022-23 Chargers became the 2nd team in school history to win at least 20 games, finishing with a record of 21-9.  The Chargers also found success in the MCCAA Western Conference, winning their last 6 games against MCCAA Western Conference teams and finishing with a record of 9-4 vs. Western Conference opponents.  With team success normally comes individual recognition and that is certainly the case as Jayci Allen and Kyra Duncan earned multiple post-season awards.

MU Ancilla was the only team in the MCCAA Western Conference to have two 1st Team All-MCCAA Western Conference players.  They were joined on the 1st Team by Abigail Long, Ariel Ford, and Hannah Outlaw.  Both Allen and Duncan also earned All-MCCAA awards.  Jackson College, Grand Rapids, and Mid-Michigan were the only other teams to have two players named to the All-MCCAA team!

Coach Gould talked about Jayci and her great season.  "Jayci turned herself into one of, if not the best two-way players in the MCCAA.  She is one of just 4 players to average a double-double.  She averaged 15.1 points and 12.5 rebounds.  She was one of the best defensive players in the league.  She is someone who could guard 1 through 5 on the court and she averaged over 10 defensive rebounds per game which is incredible.  She turned herself into a very solid 3-point shooter over the 2nd half of the season and also became an excellent free throw shooter.  Her stats only tell part of the story.  She is a fantastic teammate who is more happy to see a teammate succeed than to see herself succeed, she is someone who wants to win and will do what it takes to win, she is very coachable, and she is a great teammate who will add to any team's culture.  Some 4-year program is going to get an amazing young lady and amazing player when they add Jayci to their program."

Coach Gould also talked about Kyra and her great season.  "Kyra is one such a competitive player who will attack the basket against anyone.  Her confidence rubs off on her teammates because Kyra always believes that she and her teammates will win.  She turned herself into a very good defensive player as the year went on and turned out to be a great rebounder as well.  She is someone that we could count on every night.  We often times asked her to play 40 minutes and she did that while also being highly productive.  Kyra is going to be a great addition to a 4-year program that is looking for a confident and competitive player who shows up to play every night.  We have been very lucky to have her this season."
