Chargers Defeat Madonna, 60-49

The Charger women's basketball team bounced back from Tuesday's loss at Carl Sandburg to defeat Madonna's Junior Varsity team, 60-49. This now puts the overall season record at 4-3 with six more games remaining before Christmas Break.

The Chargers got off to a fast start, leading Madonna 18-6 after one quarter. While the two teams played an even second period, the Chargers again won the third quarter, entering the final stanza with a 46-29 lead. The Crusaders made a mini-run in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough, as the Chargers finished the 60-49 outcome in front. Charger Head Coach Ryan Gould added, "we played much harder tonight and had some nice stretches of basketball throughout the second half. When we work together as a unit, we can be successful most nights."

Freshman wing De'Mour Watson led the Chargers in scoring once again with 29 points. She posted another double-double with her 17 rebounds, plus she added 5 assists and a pair of steals to the effort. Freshman guard Nasiya Gause had one of her best games of the year, reaching 17 points and 6 rebounds, while Sophomore wing Samaria Freeman was key on the boards, pulling down 11 caroms. Madonna was led be Blessing Batalonga who posted a double-double of her own with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Charger women's basketball team is back in action tomorrow night, as they head to Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. If you are able to make the trip, please come out and support the Chargers!!
