Turnovers Bite Chargers at Carl Sandburg

The Marian University Ancilla Charger women's basketball team traveled to Western Illinois Tuesday evening to take on the Carl Sandburg College Chargers (yes, they are the Chargers as well). Whether it was the long bus ride or Carl Sandburg's 6-1 record (4-0 at home) entering the game, or a combination of both, Marian Ancilla struggled with turnovers, losing that battle 31-12, and ultimately the game, 84-41.

The MUAC Chargers lost three of the four quarters by double figures, and nearly every other statistical category, including being out-rebounded 51-30. Freshman wing De'Mour Watson posted yet another double-double with her 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Freshman guard Nasiya Gause also scored in double figures with 10 points.

Carl Sandburg was without their leading scorer, Sophomore guard Elly Bentley (22.3 ppg), but they still managed to place four players in double digits themselves, led by Freshman guard Gabbie Vontz's 16 points and 7 rebounds.

MUAC Head Coach Ryan Gould commented, "we have to figure out how to take care of the basketball and just play better and more together on the road. We have only won one road game thus far, where as we have only lost one game at home. If we could play every game at home, that would be great, but it doesn't work like that."

The Marian Ancilla women's basketball team is back in action with two more games later this week. Thursday, they host the Junior Varsity team from Madonna University at Charger Arena. Tip time for that game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET and will be followed by the men's game against Olive-Harvey College. Then, Saturday, the women make the short trek to Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. That game is set to start at 7:00 p.m. ET. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
