Game of Runs Ends in 65-56 Loss at Henry Ford

The Marian University Ancilla women's basketball team traveled to Henry Ford College last night for their second matchup in less than a month against the Hawks. It was a game of runs for both teams, but ultimately, the Hawks prevailed this time, 65-56.

The Chargers found themselves down 12-0 to begin the game, but they battled back to cut it to 19-15 early by the end of the first quarter. In the second period, the Chargers struggled to find the bottom of the net, scoring just 5 points in the quarter, leading to a 29-20 halftime deficit.

In the third quarter, MUAC began to come alive, as 6-0 Sophomore post Audrey Schmidt and 6-0 Freshman post Millie Scorsone made some plays on the interior, while 5-10 Freshman wing De'Mour Watson and 5-7 Freshman wing Bella Mahan heated up from the perimeter. The Chargers trailed just 44-41 through three quarters.

The fourth quarter saw more back and forth, with the Chargers even taking a 1-point lead, but the Hawks responded out of a timeout with a 3-pointer of their own and never trailed again. Fouls and free throws decided the final margin, 65-56.

Watson once again led the Chargers with 22 points and 16 rebounds, posting her eighth double-double in nine games. Mahan knocked down three triples and scored 11 points off the bench, while Freshman guard Nasiya Gause chipped in 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Chargers are back in action this Sunday, as they travel to Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne to take on their Junior Varsity team. Tip time is set for noon Eastern Time. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
