The Marian University Ancilla women's basketball team was back on the road Monday evening, traveling to Dowagiac, Michigan, to take on the Roadrunners of Southwestern Michigan. While the Chargers came out and competed early, a tough second half spelled out a 73-49 loss to the Roadrunners. The Chargers fell to 10-7 on the season and 2-2 in the MCCAA.

Southwestern Michigan plays at a frenetic pace, and the Chargers were keeping up offensively throughout much of the first half, trailing just 38-32 at the break. However, averaging just 59.4 points per game this season themselves, MUAC was going to have a hard time keeping that pace, and ultimately it caught up to them in the second half, as they managed just 17 points, versus the 35 Southwestern Michigan was able to manufacture. A 50-30 rebounding margin in favor of the Roadrunners hurt as well.

Freshman De'Mour Watson paced the Chargers again with 22 points and 13 rebounds, before needing to leave with 3:58 left in the contest. She added 4 assists and a pair of blocked shots to her tally. Sophomore Samaria Freeman scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, but the combination of her and Watson defensively on the Roadrunners' top two scorers limited them to just 8-28 shooting on the night.

Macey Laubach buried 4-8 shots from deep, plus all four of her free throw attempts, as she led Southwestern Michigan with 16 points. Amara Palmer had a nice night as well, scoring 15 points and grabbing 7 rebounds, while Cameron Thomas posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Nalani Williams also posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Roadrunners.

The MUAC women's basketball team is back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, January 31st, as they travel to Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Tip time is set for 5:30 p.m. ET, with the men's game to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
