Team Effort Falls Short Wednesday Night

The Marian University Ancilla women's basketball team faced intense full-court pressure for the entirety of their game Wednesday night, so despite their high turnover number, they improved throughout the game, while still playing short-handed. Minus two late baskets in the last 20 seconds, the Chargers figured out a way to win the 4th quarter by 5 points and competed much better after the halftime break.

The Chargers actually started the game pretty focused, and despite the 40-20 halftime deficit and the turnover margin, they could have been much closer if a few close shots and free throws would have fallen. In the second half, they came out competitive once again, and while they were better offensively, the turnover bug hit them again in the third quarter. During the fourth quarter, however, they seemed to play much better, continuing to improve throughout the game.

Freshman post Millie Scorsone played her best game as a Charger, scoring 18 points and grabbing 7 rebounds, 5 of which were offensive, all in a reserve role. She was 7-8 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Nasiya Gause continued to play well, tossing in 16 points of her own, while adding 3 rebounds and a pair of steals to the effort. And while she didn't score a point this game, Freshman wing Bella Mahan once again led the team in rebounding with 8 caroms collected, plus she led the team in steals with 4.

The Chargers are back in action this Saturday when they head to Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville, Michigan. Tip time is set for 1:00 p.m. ET, with the men's game to follow. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
