The Marian Ancilla Women's Basketball team moved to 15-1 Wednesday night, following a 52-34 win at Glen Oaks Community College. The Chargers have now won 8 games in a row, and they have been receiving votes in the NJCAA Division-II Top-25 poll for about the last month. Wednesday's game, however, was a grind from beginning to end.
To begin with, the Chargers were without Freshman guard Aaliyah Keil, arguably the team's best defensive player. She has been dealing with an injury and was advised to rest at Glen Oaks. Additionally, multiple players have been dealing with illness, plus Freshman guard Annika Davis left early in the first quarter with her own ailment. Davis did return early in the third quarter, however, and finished out the contest.
Even less than full strength, Marian Ancilla was able to get enough stops and get going in transition that they were able to jump out to a 26-14 halftime advantage. They led for nearly the entirety of the game, and the lead was never cut to less than 8 after halftime.
Freshman forward Santana Eubanks stepped up, posting her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She added 4 assists and a pair of steals to her tally. Sophomore guard Nasiya Gause joined her in double figures with 12 points, and she collected 6 caroms as well. And even in limited minutes, Davis managed 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The Chargers are now 2-0 in the MCCAA with a huge matchup with the Lansing Stars this Saturday. Lansing was one of three teams who tied for the MCCAA Western Division title last season, they are currently ranked 20th in the country, and they have started this conference season 2-0. Marian Ancilla will play host this time around, as Saturday's contest will take place at the LifePlex with a tip time of 1:00 p.m. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
