Women's Soccer Defeats Visiting Lakeland 2-1

Saturday afternoon, the Chargers hosted Lakeland Community College in a non-conference tilt, defeating the Lakers 2-1 to earn their first victory of the season. The Chargers entered the game with a slew of injuries, and despite taking the field with just 10 players, they battled shorthanded through additional bangs and bruises to pull out the big win.

The Chargers got the scoring started with an early goal by Sophomore midfielder Myah Donovan, while Freshman forward Natalie Boulier assisted on the score. The Lakers tied the match at 1-1 with a tally of their own, before Freshman Sophie Willey kicked in the winning goal in the second half. Willey, typically a goalie, was playing out of position for the shorthanded Chargers when she found the back of the net for the deciding score. Sophomore goalkeeper Audrey Schmidt also stepped up in the victory with 15 saves between the pipes.

Congratulations to Coach Destiny Fulmer as well, picking up her first win as Charger Head Coach!! Following the match, Coach Fulmer expressed "I am so proud of these girls. We have been through so much adversity the last few months, but they have stayed locked in and committed to getting better every day to get a win."

The Chargers are back in action Wednesday, October 11th, as they head to Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan, for a MCCAA matchup with the Bruins. The game kicks off at 4:00 p.m.
