Volleyball Battles Glen Oaks, Falls 3-0

The Charger volleyball team began a 3-game road trip with a matchup at Glen Oaks Community College yesterday. There were ups and downs for MUAC throughout the night, but ultimately the Vikings were able to pull out the 3-0 victory in Centreville, Michigan.

The Chargers dropped the opening set 25-8, however they were much more competitive in the second (25-16) and third (25-21) sets, nearly taking a set or two from Glen Oaks.

This was the first game back for Sophomore outside hitter JCarla Harris following a lengthy time away due to injury, and despite playing out of position for much of the night, she was still able to be effective and looked like she's close to playing at full potential.

Freshman outside hitter Sarah Tepp has been solid all season and again stepped up in this contest. She made plays in both a defensive manner and in offensive attack mode, and the team was able to return multiple scramble balls throughout the match.

Per Coach Heaven Donovan, "The girls played hard throughout and were able to compete with a good team. When it came to the 3rd set, they did much better energy-wise and were more disciplined. There were a few scramble plays that luckily our team was able to get through. Glen Oaks has a lot of heavy hitters and defensively the girls were able to put up a fight. Our blockers gave those heavy hitters a run for their money and forced them to take harder shots, which our back row was able to pick up. There were next to no missed serves, plus we had five aces."

The Chargers are in action once again this Thursday at Lake Michigan College as they take on the host Red Hawks. The first serve is set for 6:30 p.m. in Centreville, Michigan.
