Thursday, the Marian University Ancilla Volleyball team hosted their first MCCAA (Michigan Community College Athletic Association) opponent of the season in Southwestern Michigan College. The Roadrunners entered the contest with a 10-3 record, and the certainly looked the part.
The Chargers played with great effort and initiated several long rallies, but in the end, the Roadrunners came out on top, 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-13). Freshman Kaitlynn Kelderhouse led the Chargers in hitting (.368) and digs (21). Redshirt Freshman Kylee Saylor (.231) also had a nice hitting game, while Freshman Emma LaPato led the serve-receive with 21 attempts, while also not committing an error.
"I really enjoyed seeing our girls play as hard as they did throughout the entire match. Although we lost, they were able to see just how tough our conference can be, and how they bring their best effort," commented Head Coach Heaven Donovan. "We can use this defeat to help us prepare for our next match, and we are looking forward to battling Southwestern Michigan later this season to see how much we've improved."
The Chargers are now on the road for the remainder of September. Thursday, September 19th, they travel to Glen Oaks Community College to take on the Vikings. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., and both teams will be looking to win their first MCCAA contest of the young season. Good luck to our Chargers!!
