Chargers Battle, Fall in Dowagiac

The Marian Ancilla Volleyball team traveled to Southwestern Michigan College Tuesday night to take on the MCCAA Western Division second place Roadrunners (16-9. 5-2). While the Chargers fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-20), they did put forth a tremendous effort, scoring in the 20s twice after just posting 39 total points in their first meeting September 12th.

Freshman Kayla Ford-Harvey (.462) and Sophomore Sarah Tepp (.389) stood out, leading the team in hitting, while Freshman Emma LaPato committed just one error in 26 serve-receive attempts. Freshman Kylie Lane also committed just one error in 19 serve-receive attempts, plus she posted a pair of aces in service.

Charger Head Coach Heaven Donovan was extremely pleased with the effort put forth, "Southwestern is a tough team to beat. With a strong offense, they are seated near the top of the division, but our girls came ready to play. With long rallies, we played our hearts out. We made sure every point was earned and we limited our mistakes. Our girls played the best they have all season and made sure not to go down without a fight."

The MUAC Volleyball team has a busy month with eight matches remaining, including five over the next nine days. They are back in action Saturday, when they return to South Suburban College for the Katie Crandol "Stand Up to Cancer" Tournament. The Chargers are slated to play Kankakee Community College at 2:30 p.m. and Elgin Community College at 4:30 p.m. Please come out and support the Chargers!!
