Thursday night, the Marian Ancilla Volleyball team finished a stretch of five matches in six days, hosting Lake Michigan College at the LifePlex. Unfortunately for the Chargers, Lake Michigan sits in second place in the MCCAA Western Division and swept the evening, 3-0.
The Chargers played the Red Hawks tough in the first set, trailing by as little as 10-9 midway through the stanza. But Lake Michigan used it's height and length to extend its lead and capitalize in the later sets. The Red Hawks were a big problem around the net as well.
Head Coach Heaven Donovan thought Lake Michigan's size and composure were factors. "Their height forced us to move faster and challenged our ladies to expect the unexpected. Our ladies did a good job of recovering the ball off of shanked passes but found it difficult to scramble consistently to secure points, where LMC excelled. Our ladies did ensure that no serves were missed, as they made just a single error on serve-receive."
Charger Freshman Layla Colcord (.400) was very good, leading the team in hitting. Sophomore Sarah Tepp (.333) and Freshman Kaitlynn Kelderhouse (.333) also put together nice performances offensively. Defensively, Sophomore Brooke Schroeder was "flawless", playing 21 serve-receive attempts without an error on the evening.
The MUAC Volleyball team will finish their 4-game home stand next Tuesday, when they host MCCAA Western Division leading Lansing Community College (20-5 overall, 9-0 MCCAA). First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and this is one of two remaining home matches, so please be sure to get out and support the ladies, if you are able!!
