Following an 11-1 start during the 2024 half of the season, the Marian Ancilla Women's Basketball team had already achieved a level of success the program had not seen through 12 games. After a 12-day holiday break, they returned to action Friday afternoon, hosting Henry Ford College in the second of a home-and-home series this season. The Chargers defeated the Hawks 75-41 in Dearborn, Michigan, back on November 13th. Yesterday's game, originally slated for December 4th, was moved back twice due to weather conditions. This time around, however, the Chargers were even more in sync from the outset, leading 30-15 after one quarter, eventually winning by an 84-36 margin.

Marian Ancilla jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before the Hawks called an early timeout. From there they used 21 steals in forcing 28 turnovers, and won each quarter by 7 or more points. Freshman forward Santana Eubanks was electric early, scoring 10 of the team's first 16 points, primarily in transition. She was responsible for a game-high 20 points on 10-17 shooting, plus she collected 4 steals, 4 rebounds, and handed out 2 assists in the effort.

For the first time this season, only one starter scored in double figures, but the team collectively handed out 20 assists on 32 made field goals, which is starting to become a regular site, plus the bench produced 37 points. Sophomore wing Bella Mahan was on fire in the second half, as she connected on all 5 of her 3-point attempts, scoring 15 points. Sophomore guard Brooklynn Cooper also reached double digits with 10 points of her own. Sophomore wing De'Mour Watson led all players with 13 rebounds, 5 of which came at the offensive end of the floor, while Freshman guard Karleisha Echols led the team with 4 assists, including a beautiful find of Mahan in transition during 4th quarter action.

The schedule now ramps up for the Women's Basketball team. Today, they host Oakland Community College, who is averaging a blistering 92.4 points per game. Then starting next Saturday, the Chargers begin MCCAA conference play and face #25 Southwestern Michigan and #18 Lansing in two of their first three conference clashes. Today's game against Oakland is at the LifePlex in Plymouth at 1:00 p.m., with the Men's team to follow against a ranked Oakland Men's team at 3:00 p.m. Please come out and support the Chargers, if you are able!!
